West Coast Outdoor Adventure Rentals We’ll get you “into” nature. www.WestCoastOutdoor,ca This is a the typical viewing of the Sooke River north of the Sooke Potholes Regional Park from the Galloping Goose Bike Trail. The “Goose” is a traffic free bike / hike / horse trail that runs from downtown Victoria BC about 56 km to an abandoned mining town called Leechtown – after Peter John Leech, once City Engineer for Victoria. The trail follows an old railway line – the Trail gets its name from the sound of its old Engine – along the Sooke River to the edge of the Victoria Watershed boundary at Leechtown. Here the trail and all access past this point is blocked / high-fenced & gated. I love the upper section of the river. It has cut through the rock over the years and is dotted with many pools (for swimming in summer) and small rapids sections until it drops over a series of spectacular falls (not shown here!) – a popular local tourist attraction and swimmming spot. The trail has been closed north of the Potholes for the summer of 2009 (including the public campground) but works is now all but complete and should be back open very soon!
